O'Donnell-Coons Debate: Students Say No One Won

Students at the University of Delaware lined up for hours to nab a seat at last night's highly anticipated debate between Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell and Democrat Chris Coons. But after it was over, most of the students we spoke to said neither candidate did themselves any favors.

"I didn't think either of the candidates acted very maturely," said senior Eric McGinnis.

O'Donnell, pressured to make up a 19-point gap in the polls, was on the attack from the start - slamming Coons on everything from raising taxes in the county he runs to his personal wealth. She even tried to accuse him of being a closet Marxist, warning that it "should send chills up the spine of every Delaware voter."

But what was more mystifying was why Coons, who is sitting on a comfortable lead, felt the need to repeatedly put down O'Donnell. More than once, he claimed that he could not understand what she was talking about, accusing her at one point of "a fascinating question that really made no sense." At another juncture, he sharply chastised her for a long answer, saying "Ms. O'Donnell, we're going to try to have a conversation here this evening, rather than just a diatribe if we possibly could."

"I was kind of left feeling a bit disappointed in both sides and I wasn't quite expecting that," senior Katherine Anderson told me. "I was also left feeling that the whole kind of partisan divide that we have won't be resolved by either one of them."

There were signs that the intense national scrutiny this race has received is taking its toll on both candidates. Coons complained that O'Donnell and her supporters in the right wing media have peddled outright lies about him and his record. O'Donnell claimed some of her supporters were being harassed, and avoided answering sensitive questions like whether she believes in evolution.

"She wouldn't give any personal opinions, and frankly that matters," complained senior Jackie Denbow. "At least on the Bill Maher show she was speaking her mind."

CNN is second in right wing propaganda after the king of propagsnda, Fox Propaganda Channel, they keep you stupid. As far as ***** goes, all he has to do is ask why O'Donnell lied about her education, ask her about the liens on her property due to non-payment of taxes, and ask why she is taking foreign money being laundered through the US Chamber of Commerce.

Might not be any winner, but there sure was a looser: CNN. 50 minutes into the debate, they just bailed. They couldn't even go a full hour, they left after 50 minutes. Wonder why they are 3rd.

The real question is "Who lost?" The answer to that is: the voters. They always lose. Politicians owe the voters attention during a campaign. That's all. Once the votes are counted, politician's belong to those supplying the campaign "contributions," and other "support."

Sorry, but knowledge of Supreme Court decisions is about as basic as it gets, and O'Donnell was completely stumped. Any candidate for US Senate should be able to name several recent cases when asked, and she can't even come up with one? That was a total disgrace. Nothing else she said in the debate could make up for that. This woman is patently unqualified to be a US Senator.

Smile, look pretty and be vague honey. Remember not to say too much as this is "Obama's " fault. That it keep smiling and you will get elected because the people are just naive enough to vote for you.

So we should vote for Christine O'Donnell because "I'm a Catholic and the Dems are Marxists." Well maybe Christine O'Donnell hasn't read the bible lately but I have it right in front of me. Here's Chapter 5 of the book of James: "Look here, you rich men, now is the time to cry and groan with anguished grief because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is even now rotting away, and your fine clothes are becoming mere moth-eaten rages. The value of your gold and silver is dropping fast, yet it will stand as evidence aginst you, and eat your flesh like fire. That is what you have stored up for yourselves, to receive on that coming day of judgment. For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. Their cries have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts." Yet the GOP glorifies wealth and it favors cheating workers out of their hard-earned pay one way or another. In fact GOP candidate John Raese of West Viriginia has said,"I earned my money the hard way; I inherited it." How does this attitude square with the Book of James. And let's go to the source, the 4 Gospels themselves. Jesus spent most of his time healing the sick. He never once asked about health insurance. Doesn't this sound like socialized medicine? Yet Christine O'Donnell wants to eliminate health care reform, including provisions that provide life-saving pre-and post natal care. The lack of this medical care is one big reason our infant mortality rate is twice the infant mortality rate of France. Apparently, the GOP has re-written the Gospel. Instead of "Suffer little children to come unto me," it's "suffer little children." Jesus had nothing but contempt for the wealthy. He told the rich man to sell all he had and give to the poor. He pointed out that it was harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven than for a camel to pass through a needle's eye. Doesn't this sound like Marxism? Truth told, I'd suggest that Christine O'Donnell stick to witchcraft because she obviously does not really believe in teachings of Jesus Christ. Before any one in the GOP accuse Obama or the Democrats of being Commies or Marxists. Remember - Jesus was the world's first socialist.

Your words appear carefully chosen...some truth...some distortions of truth to fit an agenda that is not biblical. For instance what are you putting the GOP in the line of fire for "being for rich people" but not the Democrats? Many of the wealthiest of the wealthy are Democrats. Why the double standard? Why haven't they sold all their "stuff" and given it to the poor? Could it be because they need to "hang on" to all that massive wealth to use it to put more and more ungodly and immoral people into places of high government power? The very types of people that keep dragging America deeper and deeper into the sesspool of immorality and coruption. Do you really think that Jesus was saying that the rich young ruler should turn over all his possessions to the government so that they could distribute it "fairly" (yeah, right) to the poor? No, this man WAS the government! He was a "ruler". To the contrary he said to sell his possessions (obviously to people who had the money to buy them) and then FREELY give this to the poor, and individual act, not a collective one. Jesus said this to him because he knew his heart, and he knew that this man was letting his riches, and by implication the power over others that these riches gave him, get in his way of truly serving God. To try to take this story and twist it to teach that we should implicitly trust government to always do the right thing with our hard earned tax money is just plain wrong. If Jesus were sitting in the White House then it would be a different story, but he is NOT, even though the current occupant may think of himself as on par, or maybe just a bit better, than Jesus he most certainly is not. That is what makes the difference!!!

They didn't ask what the last thing the SCOTUS ruled on, they asked her to name any of the most recent things they have ruled on. She couldn't name a single one. Don't you think that is something a U.S. Senator should know?

She won? On what grounds do you base this ridiculous claim. Note: Just becuase you like her or hate *****, does NOt mean she won. In fact, she did terrible. Another waffling hypocrite.
